Mullen Elementary School

“Children and Learning Come First”

It is with great pride, that I welcome you to Mullen Elementary School, Home of the Shamrocks! I want to welcome back our returning families who helped to make last year a wonderful success. Likewise, I extend a warm welcome to our new Mullen Families and encourage them to take an active part in your child’s education. Our Mullen staff is highly qualified and dedicated to your child’s success. They are committed to making the 2012-2013 school year another positive experience for our students. Your active support combined with our best professional efforts, will ensure academic success for every child in our school.

The first step in preparing our students for a successful future is the opportunities that we provide at the elementary level. Therefore, teaching and learning will continue to be our top priority, along with providing students a safe and nurturing learning environment. In order to ensure that optimum learning takes place for every student, we will continue to implement our initiatives that we began last year such as Literacy, Inclusive Practices, Health and Wellness, building Professional Learning Communities, as well as, using a Baldrige-Based Quality approach to learning. Our new initiative this year will be the school-wide implementation of the Olweus Bullying Prevention program. The program is designed to help students develop an awareness of bullying behavior and provides training on how to recognize these behaviors. The Olweus program will enhance the Effective School-wide Discipline program that we are currently implementing at Mullen.

This year we are fortunate to have two Assistant Principals in the building. Mrs. Rhonda Ellington is returning for her second year in this position and Mrs. Marcia Wieduwilt, our Administrative Intern from last year has been promoted to Assistant Principal.  Both bring individual strengths to our school and will be a valuable asset throughout the school year. As the administrators, our focus will be on ensuring that each student receives a World Class education. As the instructional leaders, we will support the staff to ensure that they have the skills and resources needed to do their jobs effectively and efficiently. We are fortunate to work with such a dedicated and highly qualified staff that enjoys teaching our children.

A strong partnership between home, school and community will play a major role toward the success of our children. Therefore, we welcome your involvement and support as we embark upon a new school year. We look forward to partnering with you and continuing our journey to make Mullen a World Class school.
